I have the P99 AS and am very happy with it. I carry it and shoot about 6,000 rounds a year through it. If you're patient, you can get them for less than $550, prior to transfer fee or tax.

I realize you can get the Canik for a little more than $300, but I would really rather see you save a little more for the Walther.......or get a M&P9.

For that matter, I think you would be completely happy with a Ruger SR9 or SR9c. They can be found for $400. And if you have any problems with it, Ruger will fix it and pay shipping both ways, at least in the first year. After a year, you may have to pay shipping there, but they will pay to ship it back and usually not charge for the repairs.
