i live in the east, biggest thing i can easily take is a black bear or go to kentucky for elk. I have a 7mm-08 barrel for my encore and love it, but its also my blackpowder rig, so ive been wanting to pick up another rifle (maybe a ruger american or marlin xl7, even thought about an h&r single shot), to have laying around to use in a pinch. I was just going to get another 7mm08, but then i thought maybe choose a more suitable caliber should i want to hunt out west one day with a longer shot (nondangerous game).

I dont like recoil much over the 7mm08, and researching i found the 6.5x55, 260, 7mm08 and the 7x57 are all comparable in recoil, all tried and proven rounds etc. Im leaning hard towards the 7x57 but wanted some input before i go there.
