I sent a Ruger Mk1 back for a reblue and it was miraculously transformed into a brand new looking gun. I was really surprised on how it looked considering there were dings all over it. I have always liked their customer service.
If you don't like the base pin, I'd replace it with one of the aftermarket ones that have a shape to your liking, it'll probably tighten things up as well.
