Texas minimum caliber...

is not specified, per se. The only requirement is that it be a CENTERFIRE round.

So, I guess that means it doesn't matter if it is a pistol or rifle.

Seeing as how the .25 ACP is centerfire, technically you can shoot Texas deer with a little "Saturday Night Special"!
