As someone who does know anatomy, I'm fairly sure I could could shoot anyone, with just about any reasonable pistol caliber, on purpose, five times in the "face and neck area", and leave them alive and conscious. A little adrenalin to take care of the pain, you'd still be able to run away no problem. Think about it from that end and it doesn't become about the caliber does it?
