Something to keep in mind...
The damage caused by this rust is cumulative. Each time you pull the firearm out of [whatever you're using for storage], and see those spots, it means the little pits are getting bigger and bigger. If you can't find a way to put a stop to the rust, you'll just keep developing bigger and bigger pits on the firearm. Eventually, it will look like it has a really nasty case of herpes.
