Beretta is my favorite brand, but I'm not a fanboy. FN puts out a functional, quality weapon with a notable feature set. It will serve you well.
For what it's worth, my favorite carry loads in .40 are:
Speer Gold Dot 180-grain and 165-grain -
I have had the 180s loaded in my PX4 on my night table for some time now, and the rounds are very consistently quality in both shooting characteristics and physical appearance
Federal HST 180-grain and 165-grain
Winchester Ranger-T 180-grain and 165-grain
Remington Golden Saber 180-grain and 165-grain
180-grain shoots a little softer, 165-grain is a little less prone to setback.
