The firing pin is a pc of flat bar stock and it's located in the slide. The pic you show is the early model it had black grips; I had mine since 1985 and have had some 20,000 round through it. it has a plastic buffer ($1.65) that needs to be replaced every 5000 rounds and I cracked my firing pin once ($2.00) and took 5 mins to replace

Just for the record I paid $165.00 new in the box, best money I ever spent
