In college, if I learned nothing else, I learned the two commandments of engineering.
1. Keep it simple, stupid. (KISS)
2. Don't re-invent the wheel.
It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that John Browning and Bill Ruger were the authors of these two tenets.
