I usually reload for people who cannot afford to keep putting commerical defense loads down their gun during practice sessions, so I have most of them chrono'd and recipes made up! Before anyone goes ballistic, yes, they switch over to commercial loads before going home!

For the Rem Golden Saber(with advertised velocity of 1150fps), I use Sierra 165gn, and 9.5gn Blue Dot, seated to 1.125OAL. I get about 1125 fps from a 4 inch barrel.

The Sierra manual lists 9.9 as a max load, at 1100fps, so use with caution!

N340 loads out at 4.9/850fps to 6.4/1100fps, according to the load sheet, but I haven't loaded this combination myself.

Unless you wanna use 800X or VV powders, Blue Dot is the deal for 165gn/40 S&W(costs a bit less than the alternatives). Unfortunately, it's kinda dirty, but at that load density and a 4 inch barrel, it burns completely with relatively little residue compared to loading it in, say, 9mm.
