I've found the M-16 to be very controllable on full auto. The "climb" is easily managed.
Haven't shot an AK-47, but several Namvets have spoken highly of them. They're noted for reliability.
I haven't cared for the "Greasegun" family, as the bolt is a fairly high percentage of the total mass of the gun. For me, recoil has been harder to manage, with the ensuing lack of accuracy or control.
The old GI M-2 Carbine is another fun gun, particularly if you have a progressive reloader...
