Flip - I misremembered the "J" numbering sequence. Your gun is quite a bit newer than I thought, of 1983 vintage, just before S&W switched to the three-letter prefix numbering system. No problem with +p ammo.
xtp308 - Your friend's gun dates from the 1971-72 so-called "wandering J" period that I mistakenly thought Flip's gun was from.
