Mauser made a very few of these pistols to the Nickl design in 1916.
The German army was not interested in a new pistol during wartime.
After the war, Nickl and Mauser offered the design to Czechoslovakia.
The arsenal at Brno made some pistols of that design in 1920 and 1921. But in 1922 the Czech army changed to 9mm Browning (.380) and standardized on the vz22 in that caliber with the Nickl action.

I do not know for sure how two of the Mausers made it to South America.
Brazil acquired several hundred Mauser Model 1912/1914 pistols before the war. Perhaps this was an attempt by Mauser to get back into the South American market after the war.
