You said you want something better for Skeet than your Mossberg 535 pump. You're probably aware of its definite disadvantage when shooting doubles. For a quick second shot, autos and O/Us are the way to go. Yes, some folks shoot pumps, but not something with a 535's 3-1/2" chamber. Every time you shuck your 535's cob you're adding another 1-1/2" of travel over a target pump with a 2-3/4" chamber. Common sense tells us that a longer stroke is going to take more time, everything else being equal.

It appears that you've done what many others have, too: searched the catalogs for what seems be a bottom dollar, but acceptable target gun. Do yourself a favor, if you're going to be shooting Skeet, then get a Skeet gun. If you get a bottom dollar field auto, you'll become aware of it's short comings in Skeet, too. With 40+ years of Skeet shooting experience, if I were in your shoes, I'd be looking to pick up a used R-1100, Beretta 390-type auto or a Browning/Beretta O/U Skeet gun. Your best chance of finding one might be at a gun club bulletin board. A big advantage of getting a used gun locally is you can test fire it first, something you can't do with an on-line purchase. Good luck in your quest.
