A while back I bought a used pump gun that had stocks painted black(matt finish). It was a good price and I thought I could refinish the stock set.
Like opening Pandora's Box I found a stock that was broken at the wrist and repaired. The repair was good as the break had dowels through and a epoxy was used. But every time the gun was brought up to the shoulder those dowels were looking at you like two eyes in the fog. The stocks had pressed in checkering that was ok.

The bottom line was a nice new set of stocks from the factory. Looks great now.

Be careful you may start something you may not want to finish.
