A lot of people seem to be giving it a hard time compared some thinner and lighter profiled CC guns.
The new Smith & Wesson M&P Shield has exactly the same size and weight whether it is chambered for the 9mm or .40 S&W cartridge. Because of this, the 9mm version is a bit larger than its competitors, but the .40 S&W version is very competitive in size.

In fact, using a rating system on my firearms reference site WhichGun.com called CCW Factor -- which takes a handgun's size and firepower into consideration -- the M&P Shield just barely beats out every other single-stack 6-round .40 S&W pistol. It gets a 3.73, while the Kahr CW40 gets a 3.72 and the Walther PPS a 3.71.
