To shorten some comments I've written elsewhere (printed in the Atlanta Constitution, of all places!):
Those who hunt or who garden are do-it-yourselfers in providing their food. All others merely hire somebody else to do their scut work for them.
Separately: You'll occasionally find a vegetarian who imparts moral issues to meat/no-meat--and, naturally they get all exercised against hunting.
My rsponse is that if animate life (cows, e.g.) has a higher moral value than inanimate life (veggies, e.g.), a rat has a higher moral value than a Sequoia or redwood. Now, I can brew you a nice tea from the roots of a Sequoia. Want some?
