One caveat- DO NOT buy the Meprolight night sights for it. I tried that for mine, couldn't ever get them to shoot to point of aim, and the slide needs to go back to S&W to have a new front sight installed (they weld it on).

This relates to something I fleetingly mentioned in my first post- one major potential advantage of the 3rd-gen SD series is that they take M&P sights, so the selection easily goes up tenfold, and the front sight uses a standard dovetail, making it
far easier to remove and replace.
