If your interested in removing that "shiny look" remove it. You will then have what we call a satin finish, which has a little more texture, it's less "slick". Also for some applications washing your hands and washing your stock carefully of course will help. There are some traction products you can also find at a paintstore, home depot, lowes,,,etc. And if you apply these correctly it'll help tremendously,, benchrest riflestocks sometimes have this product in logistical areas of the pistol, and foregrip..
