The components we're concerned with are:
-Length of Pull, most importantly - an issue with kids, but typically NOT an issue with women.
-Recoil - and specifically, felt recoil.
So you make a good point - depending on whether they're recoil-tolerant or not, it is a bit of a myth, or at least a little more hyped than it should be. Just add weight if the caliber is a little hot.
But, with kids who haven't yet hit the early-teen growth spurt yet, they flat-out cannot shoulder a full-length LOP rifle - they need an 11-13", not a 13-16" LOP.
