The .30-30 gets lost in todays rifle talk because it isn't 'tacticool'. The 30-30 is still an excellent round and with some of the newer ammo like Honady's Leverevolution allows you to extend the range some. From about 250 yards in, it is deadly on Deer size game.
My .30-30 is a M94 Winchester and it is still my favorite rifle and would be the one I would go with in a SHTF, it is light, reliable, the ammo is cheap and it is easy to shoot. I have added Williams Fire Sights and a sling Besides, it is just plain fun to go to the range next to a group with their AR's, they will almost always ask what I'm shooting. I will let them pop a couple and then watch the smiles when they are done.
No, the old .30-30 is not the most powerfull, the coolest looking, but it a lot of fun to shoot and it works as intended and that's all you can ask.
