The original finish wasn't terrible but not pretty either. It was a tired police piece so it saw a holster A LOT. My grandfather got it back in the day and gave me all his guns right before he passed. It is stamped 1991 on the trijicon sights and is all metal ( which I love) rather than the plastic guide rod and such. So far the finish is holding up better than expected. I am in the military so I am used to shooting the 92 and prefer it when it comes to range time because I feel as if I am getting some practical training out of it. You are absolutely correct about the torpedo heater which happened to be kerosene... well I guess everyone makes a mistake their first time round with these sort of things!
