Hopefully the screw from S&W will show up in a day or so.
My other thought, did you check out the metric screw section at the hardware store and Lowes. I wouldn't think it would be but you never know. Your description of how the screw started sounds like the screw has a different pitch thread which is common with metric screws. Can't swear that is your problem but should be checked out.
