It looks like most of us agree about that. If I were facing the situation he is, I'd give some thought to parking in a place where I couldn't easily be blocked in and could be sure that I'd have the option to drive away.

In my opinion there's not much that a good dog on a leash wouldn't help. (Especially my general state of mind; I love dogs.)
But even if the OP has a dog, I don't think he's likely to have that dog with him when he's getting home from work at 4:30 AM.
