I've used mine for an S&W M&P and K38, neither were surplus and didn't have any problem. But I was lucky enough to be dealing with folks that knew what they were doing.
I go to Texas often and if I'm at a shop and they ask me what I'm interested in I always say something like, "I'm from Virginia so I'm really only interested in these C&R revolvers..." etc. That way if there's going to be any issue I'm going to know before I get
too interested in something. One place wasn't going to do it...their loss.
