It may be the kind of powder that those reloads where assembled with, using Federal ammo in my .45 it burns very clean.
The Crimson Trace is supplied with a couple of small q-tips to clean the lens, I wish they put some more inside the box, those are sized especially for the small lens.
If you are going to shoot those practice load, why don't try to put a clear Scotch tape bit in front of the lens, and see if affects the POI or not.
