I still like my 3-9x40 variable scopes for the majority of my hunting needs. The majority of shots I make are 300 yards and under. I like Leupold scopes however I own a couple of Mueller 4.5-14x40 AO scopes that are mounted on a 17HMR and a 17WSM. They perform very well with the rimfires out to their maximum ranges.
