Sounds like the Obrez Nagant would work perfectly. The 7.62x54R could be considered a 'magnum' considering it is capable of generating in excess of 3200ft-lbs muzzle energy through a 29'' barrel, when hand loaded. Cut 20'' off the barrel and this is pretty much what you get.
