Ammonia and other nitrogen compounds are not friendly to copper alloys !!!

The problem with brass is called "stress corrosion cracking" .The British Army learned about it in the early days of brass cartridge use in India in the 1800s.
It's what happens when the necks of cases are not annealed properly.

Stress [hardened brass] ,moisture ,oxygen, ammonia compounds [from lightning storms breaking down N2 in the air] act to crack the brass.
If any ammonia cleaners are used on brass wash it off thoroughly !!

That's your metallurgy lesson for today !
