+1 more for the Savage.

I have both and the Savage shot better out of the box with a better trigger.

The Remington got a Timney trigger and now shoots about equal.

The difference in price will go into the Timney trigger.

Go with the Savage.

My .308 10 FP shoots like a dream and the recoil pad lets you shoot it all day. I generally shoot 50 rounds through the Savage without even noticing that I was shooting it. The recoil pad on the Remington 700 is good but not as good as the Savage.
