So who says you have to shoot "premium" 22 ammo,

especially in a handgun? And is your time (spent reloading) worthless? My .22's are sub 5c a shot, and commercial reloads are 15-20 c a shot, if bought by the 1000 rd lot, with brass exchange. So the 22's saving people 15c a shot, most likely. Lots of people don't wish to cough up $200 for 1000 rds at a time, haven't got 1000 rds of brass to exchange, etc. So it's more like 25-30c per shot, actually.
