Sure you can... you just have to buy a new bolt face. ($40-$50 IIRC) (and you'd probably need a new magazine box)

I have a Shaw 260 barrel that to date, SUCKS!!! I'd pay the extra $50 for a McGowen without even thinking about it.

Lap the lugs

install the barrel
None of the above was done, except installation of course. I did that part myself in the shop with a vise, action wrench, and Savage barrel nut wrench. Took roughly 10 minutes. And all that lapping the lugs requires is some lapping compound ($16 from Brownells) and a few minutes in front of the TV working the bolt. If I ever get that kind of spare time, I may look into it.
