what you are calling a pole spear i bought labeled as a Hawaiian sling. killed many cods, cabezon, flounder, sole, and a small halibut with it in the Puget sound. also lots of snapper, jacks, small tuna, mahi, in the gulf of mexico.
i also used a regular spear gun to get them too. just never tye off your spear line to your B.C. if you are going after big fish, it will take you for a ride if you get a bad shot! (dont ask how i know!)
