These are rifle/carbine/revolver/shotgun and cartridges I've used to take deer. None got away:

- 30-30 Winchester - 94 & Glenfield 30
- 35 Remington - Marlin 336 & Remington 141
- 44 MAG - Marlin 1894 & Ruger 96
- 300 Savage - Remington 722
- .308 - Remington 660 & Savage 99
- 6.5mm Swede - custom Browning
- .223 - Savage 110-V (64 gr Winchester bullet)
- .243 - Remington 760
- 357 MAG - Taurus revolver
- 12 ga - Mossberg 500 with rifled barrel
- 50 cal - CVA Optima muzzle-loader

Of course, I do not own all these firearms. It's fun to trade every now and again.

My favorite is 30-30 for shots out to about 150 yards or so. Either I stalk closer or pass up the animal.

I have taken deer well beyond 275 yards with .308 and .243.

44 MAG hits REAL HARD with Hornady XTP hollow tip bullets. Big holes in the animals but recoil and muzzle blast are easy to take in carbine compared to revolver. My longest shot with 44 MAG: about 85 yards or so.
