For irons I like the old "Tin Hat" targets. You just "make a mushroom" with the target & the front sight.
My favourite construction materials & method?
Paper 8" plate, spray paint black.
Staple to backer.
Staple sheet of printer paper across bottom half.
To score remove paper & look at the whole thing.
