This is some passive but effective HD, but my parents have some kind of mutant bushes with 3 inch long thorns under all the windows in the front and back yard. You can't even get close to a window without getting destroyed by these darn things (I say from experience trying to put up their hurricane shutters). Combined with a nice dead-bolt, there is no way anyone is getting into that house without making enough noise to wake up the dog. I once fell off the back of a truck into a pile of razor wire while setting up a FOB, and let me tell you that pain was right on par with those demon bushes. I don't know what species of plant it is, but I'm sure you could go to the gardening section in Home Depot and find something like it.
