You don't NEED to lube, but it's still easier to size and operate the press. I lube 1 out of every 5 or 10 cases. This is regarding straight/tapered walled cases. On bottlenecks, I lube LIGHTLY every case.
I have a set of the Hornady dies. I personally had a problem with the sizing die. When I received another die from Hornady, it seemed to help out my problems. I'm still not warm to them...
