Mauser Identification Help?

My grandfather just handed down his old German military rifle, and neither my dad nor myself can find a match to this rifle. We asked the local pawn shop for information, and they say they've never seen this model before despite it being, and I quote, "the largest firearms distributor in the Pacific Northwest".

It is a German Mauser 1887 I.G. Mod. 71/84, produced by Amberg. I will add pictures at a later date. I've found a similar rifle here ( http://www.militaryrifles.com/Germany/71Mauser.htm ), however our rifle has some specific differences between the two.

Firstly, the stock ends less than an inch beyond the first clamp shown in the image above. Also, the tubular magazine only extends about two inches from the end of the stock and does not have what I assume is either a ramrod or cleaning rod, as seen below the end of the barrel in the above image.

That is all for now. I will answer any questions to the best of my ability on top of continuing to do my own research. Please help, if you can. Thanks in advance.
