It isn't difficult if you want to stain the grips to the color you want them. Take the grips off the pistol and You can sand the old stain off and down to the bare wood with 150 grit sandpaper (sand in the same direction as the grain of the wood). After you get down to the bare wood, resand it with about a 220 grit sandpaper and then a third time with a 600 or 800 grit sandpaper. This smooths out the wood so there are no rough places.

Now you can apply the stain of your choice according to the directions on the can. Each coat makes it darker. After it has dryed for the amount of time on the instructions you can apply polyurethane or Tru-0il from birchwood casey to add a little shine on top of the stain.
