In a stock (factory) barrel 70 Series Colt or a Kimber the following load has worked well for me, in MY IRONS, WORK UP FROM BELOW.

5.2 grain Red Dot with 200 grain, similar to H&G 68 .452" SWC, hard cast. OAL 1.260, dia over taper crimp .470, using just about any available brass, commercial or military. Use for IDPA also, gets just over 900 ft/sec.

It might or might not work well in other pistols, only way to tell is to try.
