I don't know about the "soft squishy" ones, but I bought one off Ebay that is a chinese replacement for the metal plate. I haven't installed it yet, but it seems a little firmer than I expected. Still, it has to be better than metal... doesn't it?

Either way, I'm about to mount a scout scope on mine, along with the firm rubber pad, and see what I can do.
