I have actually found that it isn't that its so loud, although it certainly is loud, but the tremendous pressure it builds up when fired. You most certainly need ear protection. I used to wear the "Sonic" ear plugs and they didn't do the job. You need muffs.

Shoot it at night. You will enjoy the fireworks.
