Not sure why the OP has a chip on his shoulder about his pet cartridge, since I haven't really seen much of anything on this site of anyone suggesting the .243 wouldn't work just fine on whitetails and such. Fact is, the typical whitetail isn't a terribly difficult animal to take down at moderate distances, as has been proven many times over by folks who poach them with cartridges as low in power as a .22 LR.
