I just bought an S&W .38 SPL with the number on the butt stamped 6718xx. I'm thinking that I read on this site, that the gun my have been produce in the late 60's.
If it's a "J" frame (5 shot) then the serial number dates it to the late 60's.
SN's ran from 295000 in 1962 to 786544 in 1969.

It also has stamped on the frame Marcas Registradas (registered trademark) as part of a 4 line rollmark. Does this indicates this gun being a post war gun?
Yes. The 4 line address started around 1948. Prior to that it was a single line stating "Made in USA".
Marcas Registradas (Registered Trademark) was stamped on the guns to help combat the large number of spanish copies being made.
