You can slide it backwards onto the muzzle but without any way to lock it the bayonet is not going to stay on very well. Like the article said reversing the bayonet is just for vehicle transport and storage. If you tried shooting the rifle with the bayonet on backwards you would most likely end up launching it downrange.
