3. FEDERAL AGE RESTRICTIONS
Federal law prohibits Federal firearms
licensees from selling or delivering any
firearm or ammunition to any individual
who the licensee knows or has reasonable
cause to believe is less than 18
years of age, and, if the firearm is other
than a shotgun or rifle, or ammunition
for a shotgun or rifle, to any individual
who the licensee knows or has reasonable
cause to believe is less than 21

Ammunition interchangeable between
rifles and handguns (such as .22 caliber
rimfire) may be sold to an individual 18
years of age, but less than 21, if the
licensee is satisfied that the ammunition
is being acquired for use in a rifle.

1. You can buy 9mm for use in a rifle from a licensed dealer if you are over 18.
2. You can buy ammo for use even in a handgun from a private party or an unlicensed ammo dealer if you are over 18. (Remember, dealers in ammo only do not require a license to sell - only to manufacture).
3. Your parents can buy any ammo for you from a licensed dealer so long as they do not make any false oral or written statements to the licensed dealer regarding the ammo purchase. If they make a false oral or written statement to a licensed dealer regarding the ammo purchase, they will violate Federal law.
