A friend of mine has a Remi 788 in 30-30 that's phenomenally accurate with 150g SST handloads and I think it would easily take a dear at 300 yards. The 30-30 handloads are getting about the same velocity as my 7.62x39 loads but with a 25g heavier bullet.
