It appears that you have a .38 special Military and Police (pre-model 10) made between 1946-1948. The "S" serial number was assigned in 1946 at # S811120 and ended in 1948 at # S999999.

This model has gone through three models and five changes between 1899 and 1942 when serial number 1,000,000 was reached. At that time, WW II, S&W began making these guns for the military with the serial number series "V" for Victory and "VS" (when a new "safe" hammer block was introduced) and continued to serial # V811119 when the war ended. Commercial production resumed and the prefix was changed to "S" until 1948 when the second million had been manufactured and the new serial number series was changed to "C". In 1957 S&W began assigning model numbers and this M&P was stamped mod. 10 in the yoke.

This model has been in continuous production from 1899 and is still in production today.

Value depends on condition and the latest S&W Standard Catalog lists the range of values between $95 (poor) and $500 (as new in box).
