In a home invasion scenario, the first gun I'd go for would be my 12-gauge slide-action shotgun (Winchester 1300). This is JMHO, but I believe a storm of buckshot would be pretty effective against home invaders, possibly more effective than anything else. Hopefully, however, I'd also have my Glock 21 handy.
