shoot, i was building ARs for as low as $600 before the panic. We're talking very basic rifles, pre installed bull-barrel flattop complete DPMS uppers and budget stripped lowers with DPMS parts kits from classifieds, then grabbing the buffer/spring/rest of the stock kit from Ebay. Sounds cheap, are some of my favorite rifles and extremely accurate.
Who knows if we'll ever see that again.
